Our founder, Carrie Ford, has a long history of working with children from all walks of life. In one of her many youth-enriching activities, volunteering with Operation Hope, she had the opportunity to speak with children from an inner city school in Atlanta. During her interaction with them she was surprised by the limits of what they thought was possible for them. She knew that this was likely due to lack of meaningful exposure limiting their imaginations.

The interaction with this lively group of students fueled Carrie’s desire to start a nonprofit for children who may not understand how vast their options are career wise.

Often, it’s difficult to be what you cannot see. Heart in STEM is here to make the path to STEM more visible. Carrie’s path to medicine was unclear and she made missteps along the way, as a rising physician, Heart in STEM is her passion project to help those coming after her have a more clear path.
